SANParks has opened a seven-cable zipline at Golden Gate Highlands National Park, adding a one-hour aerial activity to the Free State park’s visitor offering, with daily departures now available.

Golden Gate Highlands National Park, Free Stat, Visitors to Golden Gate Highlands National Park now have a new way to experience the Free State landscape, following the launch of the Golden Gate Zipline by South African National Parks (SANParks).

The new adventure consists of seven zipline cables and platforms and takes approximately one hour to complete. The longest cable stretches 650 metres, with the route beginning at an altitude of approximately 1,300 metres above sea level and finishing at around 1,200 metres.

The zipline is open to visitors aged six years and older, subject to a maximum weight limit of 120kg. The experience is priced at R650 per person.

Operating daily from 09:00 to 16:00, with the final tour departing at 15:00, the activity gives visitors another bookable experience to include in a Golden Gate stay or a wider Free State itinerary.

Golden Gate Highlands National Park lies in the foothills of the Maluti Mountains near Clarens and is known for its sandstone formations, mountain scenery, hiking routes and cultural and palaeontological attractions.

SANParks says the new zipline complements existing experiences including scenic drives, hiking trails, accommodation and the Kgodumodumo Dinosaur Interpretation Centre.

For tour operators, guides, accommodation providers and itinerary planners working in the Clarens and Golden Gate area, the addition creates another structured activity that can be incorporated into day visits and multi-night stays, particularly for travellers looking to combine nature, scenery and adventure activities within the same destination.

Bookings for the Golden Gate Zipline can be made directly by calling +27 (0)60 666 4732.
